There are many undecided voters out there who I'm sure are having a crisis regarding their pro-life views. They have very compassionate hearts, and don't know whether they should cast a vote for a candidate who would quickly end the war (and who also is against the death penalty) or to cast a vote for crusaders against the tragedy of abortion. I think that many of the voters that are stuck in this quandary are women. And I also guess that they're not so much concerned about the effects of an immediate pull-out, they simply -- and understandably -- feel terrible about the loss of life in the war zone and want it to stop. You see the pictures and hear the stories of the fallen and the families they are leaving behind, and it tears your heart out. But in this election, you have to look a bit closer and make a determination between the two candidates. You have to choose which is more in line with your values on the sanctity of life. So in choosing our president, I guess some of us feel that we have to decide -- which is the more important fight? Defending criminals and stopping the war, or protecting the preborn, the "born alive" and pregnant women? Well first of all, fewer than 100 men and women are executed in the US every year. (I think the average since 1976 is 29.) That does not mean that the death penalty is not an important issue. But very few lives are at stake in regards to it. And each defendant is assigned a team of lawyers to fight for their right to live. In the case of the war -- even though we suffer the loss of every single one of our soldiers -- our military is fighting a good battle, and each man and woman has a fighting chance. And thankfully the numbers are relatively low when you consider that more Americans are dying in the streets of Chicago these days than the streets of Iraq. Consider this as well -- the total number of casualties in the past five years is less than a single busy weekend in abortion clinics across America. During the five and a half years that we have been in Iraq, we have been fortunate that just over four thousand one hundred of our precious men and women have made the ultimate sacrifice. In that same amount of time -- over five million children have died and five million women have been scarred in abortion clinics across our land. And there was not a team of lawyers fighting for their right to live, and those children did not have a fighting chance at the hands of the abortionists. A woman never has to choose abortion. A child never has to die. There is always a better way. There is alway another non-violent, life-affirming choice. Barack Obama may be against the death penalty and against the war, but he is also an ardent advocate of abortion for any reason, at any level of gestation, without restriction. And he would deny care to babies born alive as a result of a "botched" abortion. If it's loss of life you are concerned about -- you'd be doing more by helping to end violence on the streets of the Windy City, than voting for Obama-Biden. Or much better yet, by standing up for the lives of the utterly defenseless and protecting pre-born and "born alive" girls and boys, by voting McCain-Palin. Peace begins in the womb.
