On this, his last full day in office, I extend thanks to the man who has served as our national leader for the last 8 years.
He had his share of missteps -- not nearly as many as his detractors would claim -- but I honestly believe he was a man who had his heart in the right place. I worry when I consider who it seems are writing the history books these days, but I think that the stories which will emerge in the coming years will show just how lucky we were to have him in the White House during some challenging times.
For keeping us safe from terrorists, for the attention paid to the plight of AIDS in Africa, for the care and concern exhibited to those who served in our military and their families, for defending freedom around the globe, and for defending life here in our nation...
Thank you, Mr. President.
