You have to hand it to Obama. He really can deliver a speech. He sounds so good -- he must know what he's talking about. He's so convincing, he speaks with such conviction. It's not just showmanship, everything he says must be the truth.
Unless he's incredibly wrong about something-- no we did not invent the automobile -- it's taken as fact. Just because a speech is eloquent and charismatic doesn't make it accurate. Just because there is a big red-white-and-blue ribbon on it, doesn't make it good for America.
I spent the whole speech thinking, "He does know that he was elected, doesn't he? Why is still campaigning? Why is he still bashing the previous administration and trying to sell us on his? Why is he still using the rhetoric of the campaign trail?"
Probably because he is not delivering on so many of those promises he made. There is no transparency. There are earmarks galore in his legislation. There have been countless ethical lapses by his appointees.
And some media outlets have been calling out these missteps. So BO has to get up and tell us the same promises over again and hope that his fancy talk will distract us from reality. Sad thing is, most folks eat it up and believe him.
I'll believe when -- no if it happens, and I highly doubt it will. More Americans need that skepticism.
It was a bit disheartening when BO is followed by a truly intelligent, truly reformative leader who has the results to prove he has the right ideas. But Bobby Jindal is not as good-looking, not as charismatic, and so the folks at MSNBC and others make fun of him.
We are a nation that chooses style over substance and it could lead to great strife. Maybe enough folks will get burned and wise up before too much damage is done.
